This is a unique floor-standing lamp that uses 18 LEDs (6 each red, green, and blue) shining up into a tall cylindrical acrylic diffuser to "light up your life" if you will. Those LEDs don't just stay steady-on, there are four modes available: a gentle color wash, a color cycling with a dark period in between, a second variation of color wash, and a strobe.
The lamp stands approximately 40 inches tall, so it can be placed on the floor or placed on a table.
It is my opinion (personal preference only, mind you!) that this lamp would look best when placed in a corner (on the floor or on a small table) and the remainder of the room lights are extinguished or subdued (dimmed way down).
SIZE
The lamp comes in three pieces: the weighted base, the lower half, and the upper half.
Screw the base into the lower half (the piece made of metal), slide the upper half (the piece made primarily of frosted acrylic plastic) over the open end of the lower half, and there, you're finished with assembly.
Plug the plug on the cord of the wall wart into the receptacle for it near the lamp base, and plug the larger end into any standard (in north America anyway) 110 to 130 volts AC 60Hz household receptacle. The lamp should now come on in one of its modes other than strobe mode (probably color wash mode).
Just below the lamp's midpoint (on the upper part of the lamp's metal lower half) is a black pushbutton switch. Pressing & then releasing this switch once switches the lamp into color wash mode, pressing & releasing it again switches the lamp into color-fading mode (similar to color wash mode except the lamp turns completely off before fading back up to the next color), pressing & releasing it again switches to a color wash mode (it appears as though more pastel and fewer primary colors are displayed in this color wash mode than in the first), and pressing & releasing it again switches it to strobe mode. Lather, rinse, repeat. In other words, pressing & releasing the button again switches the lamp back to color wash mode.
To turn the lamp off, press this button and hold it in for 1 to no more than 2 seconds, then release it.
This product is powered exclusively by AC power, so I don't have to tell you which part to take off and feed to the hungry hungry praying mantids and then tell you not to.

Granted, you *CAN* feed the praying mantids, but nothing on this product will do the job.
This lamp is meant to be used as a decorative lamp in a dry area, not as a flashlight meant to be carried around, thrashed, trashed, and abused. So I won't throw it against the wall, stomp on it, try to drown it in the toilet bowl or the cistern, run over it, swing it against the concrete floor of a patio, bash it open to check it for candiosity, fire it from the cannonada (I guess I've been watching the TV program "Viva Piñata" too much again - candiosity is usually checked with a scanner-type device on a platform with a large readout or with a handheld wand), send it to the Daystrom Institute for additional analysis, or inflict upon it punishments that flashlights may have inflicted upon them. Therefore, this section of the web page will be significantly more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.
There were no instructional materials of any type furnished, but the lamp is easy to assemble, and it is pretty intuitive as to which part goes where. I had no difficulty at all assembling the lamp without assistance of any type.
The metal base has felt on its underside, so the lamp will not mar or scratch any table you may place it on.
I would like to have seen a dimming function included so that this lamp may be used as a nightlight, but I'll be very happy with it the way it is.

Test unit was purchased on the My Virtual Zone website on 07-15-07 and arrived at arrived 8:51am PDT on 08-09-07. This is the earliest delivery I've ever had - a very minor milestone in that regard.
The AC adapter/transformer is rated to output 12 volts AC at 250mA.
