The 3W Luxeon Handtorch, model ALX-032L (hereinafter, just called a "flashlight"), is an LED flashlight that uses a Luxeon III LED at the bottom of a half-smooth half-stippled (texturised) reflector.

It comes in an almost all-aluminum body, clear anodized for protection, has a rubbery pushbutton on the barrel, and has two CR123A cells in its barrel to feed that LED with.

The pushbutton switch gives you three intensity levels plus off; and a blink mode is available if you require it.

To use the flashlight, install the included batteries first (see the "Feeding Time" section directly below), and then you can go to town.

Press the rubbery button on the barrel fairly gently until it clicks and then release it to turn it on "high".

Press and release the button the same way again to turn the flashlight on "medium".

Press and release the button the same way again to turn the flashlight on "low".

Press and release the button the same way a fourth time to turn the flashlight off.

Just like it reads on the back of many shampeepee (or shampoopoo) bottles: "lather, rinse, repeat". In other words, pressing the button a fifth time turns the flashlight back on "high".

The brightness levels are listed as 100%, 50%, and 25%.

To access the blinking mode, press and hold the button down for three seconds, then release it. This mode is accessible regardless of what mode the flashlight is in at the moment. This will cause the light to flash at maximum intensity at a frequency of approximately 1.5Hz (~three flashes every two seconds).

There is no momentary or signalling mode available in this flashlight, so please do not look for or expect to find one.

The flashlight comes with a nylon pouch/belt holster with a rigid liner. The flashlight fits this holster bezel-up; a flap with a snap on it folds over the top and attaches to the body of the holster with another snap, so the flashlight doesn't just fall out. This holster fits belts up to 1.5" wide, and can either be threaded through the belt or attached to the belt after your pants are already on, thanks to two snaps that can be unfastened to attach the holster to your belt, and then snapped back together once you have the holster fitted in place. I do not own or use pants that require a belt however, so I cannot test this accessory in the manner in which it was intended to be used.



To change the batteries when necessary, unscrew and remove the tailcap, throw it in the {vulgar term for feces}bowl, yank that silvery-colored handle on the front of the cistern down, and flush it away...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Tip the two used CR123A cells into your hand, and dispose of or recycle them as you see fit.

Insert two new CR123A cells in the barrel, button-end (+) positive first. Screw the tailcap back on, and be done with it.
Aren't you glad you didn't flush away that tailcap now?

Current measures 742 mA on high, 329mA on medium, and 149mA on low.

This flashlight appears at least fairly durable, and it is. When I performed that terrible smack test on it (ten whacks against the corner of a concrete stair: 5 smacks against the side of the bezel and 5 smacks against the side of the tailcap), only the expected damage was found. There is some minor gouging on the sides of the bezel and tailcap where it was struck. No optical or electrical malfunctions were detected.

There is what I believe to be a clear anodized coating over all of the exposed aluminum; this should help keep the flashlight looking newer for longer, even if it goes up against coins, keys, or other flashlights during storage or transport.

There are bands of knurling (crosshatch-shaped texturising) on the barrel and tailcap, and the bezel (head) has some grippy shapes machined into it. So retention (the ability to hold the flashlight when your hands are cold, wet, or oily) should not be an issue.

The flashlight appears to be weather- and water-resistant at the very least. When I removed the tailcap, relieved the barrel of its batteries, and then performed that dreadful suction test, no leakage was detected. So if it fell into shallow water, just shake it off and keep going. And you need not be concerned about using it in rain or snow. And if it fell in the kitty litter box and the cat went #1 on it, just douche it off under the faucet...good as new! Being water- and pee-resistant is fairly new for a suspected Nuwai product, and makes an already good product even better.

The light produced is a pure white, with no obvious pink, yellow, blue, purple, or "rotten cat urine green" tints to it.
