"CPF" stands for Candlepower Forums. This is the custom printing ("Candlepower Forums", not "CPF") on the barrel of this ballpoint pen with white LED "write in the dark" feature.

The pen writes in black ink, and a brilliant white LED above the pen tip illuminates the page you're writing on if you wish to turn it on and use it.

 SIZE

The pen should come to you ready to use right away. Remove the transparent cap off the business-end, throw it to the ground, and stomp on it with steel-toed work boots...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL WANT TO SAVE THAT!!! So set it aside or gently push it onto the pen cap.

Write as you normally would, and replace the cap when you're finished using the pen.
Aren't you glad you didn't stomp on that cap now?

To turn the LED near the pen tip on, turn that black band near the pen's tip clockwise or counterclockwise until it clicks. Turn it until it clicks again to turn the LED off.

To feed this pen, unscrew the top cap, and set it aside. Don't stomp on it or flush it away.

Tip the three used LR44 cells out of the pen barrel and into your hand, and dispose of or recycle them. Do not stomp on them or flush them down the toilet.

Insert three new LR44 button cells in the pen barrel, button-end (-) negative going in first.

Finally, screw the top cap back on.

Measures 74.4mA on my DMM's 400mA scale.
This is more current than I prefer to see going to a single LED, but with the amount of time the average person will use this pen in the dark, it's probably alright.

Photograph of the pen's "business-end", showing the pen tip and the transparent plastic thing the LED is behind.

This product is meant to be used as a pen in a dry area, not a flashlight meant to be thrashed and abused, so I won't try to flush it down a toilet, bash it against the corner of a concrete stair or a steel rod, let my housemate's kitty cat go to the bathroom on it, run over it with a 400lb Rascal, or perform other indecencies on the pen that a regular flashlight might have to go through.

This pen is not water-resistant, waterproof, or submersible. So please try not to drop it in creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, oceansides, docksides, puddles of giraffe pee, slush piles, mud puddles, tubs, toilet bowls, cisterns, sinks, fishtanks, dog water dishes, or other places where water or water-like liquids might be found.

If it fell in water and you suspect it got flooded, disassemble it as you would for a battery change, dump out the water if necessary, and set the parts in a warm dry place for a day or so just to be sure it's completely dry inside before you reassemble and use it again.

If it fell into seawater or if somebody or something peed on it, douche all the parts out with fresh water before setting them out to dry. You don't want your pen to smell like seaweed or piss when you go to use it next. Besides, salt (from seawater or wee-wee) can't be very good for the insides.

Light is considerably less bluish than as depicted in this photograph.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit was sent by a website fan, and was received on the afternoon of 04-23-05.

Pen was manufactured in South Korea. A product's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I mentioned it on this web page.
