The Eternity Flashlight™ is a small, pager-shaped flashlight that has five LEDs, and has a crank on the side for charging it. You never have to purchase disposable batteries for it, and to add to its versatility, it can charge your cellular telephone's battery if necessary. It comes with a charger cord specifically for that purpose.

 SIZE

To use the Eternity Flashlight™, charge it first (see directly below). Slide one, two, or all three switches on the top of the flashlight body forward (toward the LEDs) to turn one, two, three, four, or all five LEDs on, depending on the brightness you need.

The leftmost and rightmost switches each turn two LEDs on; the center switch turns one LED on.

Slide all three switches backward (away from the LEDs) to turn the flashlight off.

To use the Eternity Flashlight™ to charge a cellular telephone, plug one end of the included cord into the receptacle for it on the left side of the flashlight body, and plug the other end into the charging receptacle on your cellular telephony. (I go by "Telephony" on a local BBS, so it was only a matter of time before I typoed "telephone" that way on this website ). Rotate the crank on the flashlight for 2-3 minutes to obtain 3-8 minutes of usage on the cell phone. Usage times may differ depending on the brand and model of cellular telephone, so please take these times with plenty of crystalline sodium chloride (grains of salt).

To charge the Eternity Flashlight™, first be sure all of the LEDs are turned off. Unfold the charging handle from the right side of the flashlight body, and turn it at 2 to 3 revolutions per second for at least one minute.

Then fold the charging handle back down into the recess in the side of the flashlight body for it.

According to the instructional material provided, one minute of charging will provide you with "up to" 30 minutes of "bright light".

The Eternity Flashlight™ flashlight seems reasonably durable at very minimum, but because of its all-plastic construction and that dynamo, I won't do the smack test on it. It would almost certainly become broken if I did.

Water-resistance seems minimal at best, although it should be at least slightly sprinkle-resistant. So please try not to drop it in creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, oceansides, docksides, puddles of wild boar pee, slush piles, mud puddles, tubs, toilet bowls, cisterns, sinks, fishtanks, dog water dishes, or other places where water or water-like liquids might be found. A little rain or snow probably wouldn't hurt it though, so you need not be too concerned about using it in lightly bad weather.

You don't have to worry about me doing "the toilet test" on the Eternity Flashlight™, not only because the commode is shared by two others, but because the Eternity Flashlight™ would probably drown in the bowl.

I plugged my Nokia model 1260 cellular telephony into the unit and started cranking. The "battery" symbol came on, but the animated "charging" bars did not display. So I don't know if it was accepting a charge or not.
The "battery" symbol went back off as soon as I stopped cranking the Eternity Flashlight™, so that at least indicates the phone was detecting outside voltage on its DC charger receptacle.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit of the Eternity Flashlight™, one other flashlight, and the Smart Candle were sent by N.M., and were received on the morning of 02-10-05.

UPDATE: 05-11-06
After seeing that the movers failed to collect this flashlight for transport with most of the rest of my belongings to Sacramento CA. today, I tried it, and it was dead as a doorknob. After charging it for ~1 minute, I tried turning it on via the center switch. The center LED flashed at high intensity for a few hundred milliseconds, then dropped off sharply and rapidly (~50ms) to a very low intensity. I repeated this action (timing it on a clock with a second hand on it) and obtained the same results.
