The Neo-Glo Glo*Wand is a 3-in-1 LED glow wand that functions as a flashing wand (with momentary and continuous power modes) and a steady-burning flashlight. It comes in a painted aluminum body, and has a plastic wand which is removeable if desired, to allow the product to be used as a keychain flashlight.

 SIZE

Batteries are included - one set comes already installed and a second set is in the package, so you'll be ready to use the wand as soon as you remove it from the package. Although the package looks like it can be opened without tools, you'll need to cut down one side of it with a sharp knife or a pair of household scissors. The spare batteries are taped to the inside surface of the plastic front; just lift one side of the tape away and all three cells will easily come out.

Push and hold down the topmost button to cause the unit to rapidly blink; release the button to turn the unit off.

Press and release the bottommost button once to cause the unit to rapidly blink in continuous or hands-free mode. Press and release the button to turn the unit on in steady mode. Press and release the button a third time to turn it off.

To use the unit as a keychain flashlight, unscrew and remove the plastic wand, and press & release the bottommost button two times. The LED will operate in steady mode, so you can shine it around like a flashlight. Press and release the bottommost button to turn it off. Screw the wand back on when you're finished so you don't lose or step on it.

The unit comes with both a split ring and a spring-loaded "lobster claw" attachment affixed to the tailcap by a swivel; so you can carry it on your keychain if desired.

To change the batteries, unscrew and remove the tailcap, gently drop it to the ground, look at it all funny, cock your head all wierd, and kick it into the weeds so it can rot away...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Tip the used LR44 button cells out of the barrel and into your hand, and dispose of or recycle them as you see fit.

Stack three new LR44 button cells on top of one another on a counter, table, desk, or other flat surface; button-end (-) negative facing up. Lower the barrel of the wand over the cells, slide the whole affair to the edge of the counter, table, desk, etc. and place your finger over the open end of the barrel so those LR44 cells just don't clatter to the floor. Invert the barrel and your finger at once, so the barrel faces toward the ceiling or sky. Remove your finger, and screw the tailcap back on.
Aren't you glad you didn't kick that tailcap into the weeds now?

Current usage measures 40.1mA in steady-on mode on my DMM's 400mA scale. Unable to measure current usage in blink mode because it's...well...blink mode.

The Glo*Wand was meant to be used as a light-duty keychain novelty light, not as a flashlight meant to be thrashed and abused, so "The Smack Test" really isn't appropriate here.

This product is very lightly splash-resistant at best, but it is not submersible. So please try not to drop it in creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, oceansides, docksides, puddles of moose pee, slush piles, mud puddles, tubs, toilet bowls, cisterns, sinks, fishtanks, dog water dishes, or other places where water or water-like liquids might be found. There are two O-rings, located on the tailcap and on the wand, but water will rather easily enter the unit around the switch buttons.

If it fell in water and you suspect it got flooded, disassemble it as you would for a battery change, dump the water out of the barrel if necessary, unscrew and remove the wand, and set the parts in a warm dry place for a day or so just to be sure it's completely dry inside before you reassemble and use it again.

If it fell into seawater or if somebody or something peed on it, douche all the parts out with fresh water before setting them out to dry. You don't want your Glo*Wand to smell like seashells or piss when you go to use it next. Besides, salt (from seawater or pee) can't be very good for the circuitry, the buttons, or the electrical connections.

Beam photo (with wand removed) at ~12".
Measures 12,310mcd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.

Quicktime movie (.mov extension) showing the Glo*Wand's blinking pattern.
This clip is approximately 2.7 megabytes (2,805,684 bytes) in length; dial-up users please be aware.
It will take no less than ten minutes to load at 48.0Kbps.
I cannot provide it in other formats, so please do not ask.

***IMPORTANT!*** This movie shows a "pulsating" which
does not actually occur. In reality, it is a very fast blinking.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit was purchased at Fred Meyers here in Seattle on 08-07-05 while I was shopping for some Mini-Mags for hosting drop-in adapters that should be here later this week.

Product was made in China. A product's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I published it on this web page.
