Thuh kompanie thaat makks thuh Omnibrite kant spel "bright". The Omnibrite is a single AA cell incandescent flashlight. It comes in a metallic-finished plastic body, and comes with a split ring on a swivel attachment.

It has a texturised sleeve on the barrel, and a texturised ring on the bezel (head), and has a stippled (texturised) reflector to help smooth its beam - which really does not work, see below.

 SIZE

The Omnibrite is almost ready to use as soon as you take it out of the package. Feed it the included battery first (see directly below), and then you can go paint the town red - or a hideous dim incandescent yellow in this case.

Turn the bezel (head) clockwise (as if tightening it) to turn the flashlight on, and turn the bezel counterclockwise (as if loosening it) to turn the flashlight off.

There is no momentary or signalling mode available; please do not look for or expect to find one.

To change the battery in the Omnibrite, unscrew and remove the bezel (head), throw it in the {vulgar term for feces}bowl, yank that silvery handle on the front of the cistern (toilet tank) down, and flush it away...O WAIT!!! YOU'LL NEED THAT!!! So just set it aside instead.

Tip the used AA cell out of the barrel and into your hand, and dispose of or recycle it as you see fit.

Insert a new AA cell into the barrel, flat-end (-) negative first.

Screw the bezel back on, and there, you're finished.
Aren't you glad you didn't flush away that bezel now?

Due to the way the flashlight was constructed, I was unable to obtain a current usage measurement.

This flashlight uses an incandescent bulb, which will eventually blow out and need to be changed. Once I figure out how to do that, I'll furnish that information on this web page.

The Omnibrite is of all-plastic construction, so I will not do "the smack test" on it - it would most certainly become broken if I did.

As for water-resistance, I'd say light weather-resistant and sprinkle-resistant at best. Although there is an O-ring between the bezel and barrel, I don't know how effective it is. And when I suctioned the bezel by itself, significant leakage was detected. So please try not to drop it in creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, oceansides, docksides, puddles of albino beaver pee, slush piles, mud puddles, tubs, toilet bowls, cisterns, sinks, fishtanks, dog water dishes, or other places where water or water-like liquids might be found. A little rain or snow probably wouldn't hurt it though, so you need not be too concerned about using it in lightly to moderately bad weather.

If it fell in water and you suspect it got flooded, disassemble it as you would for a battery change, dump out the water if necessary, and set the parts in a warm dry place for a day or so just to be sure it's completely dry inside before you reassemble and use it again.

If it fell into seawater or if somebody or something peed on it, douche all the parts out with fresh water before setting them out to dry. You don't want your flashlight to smell like seashells or piss when you go to use it next. Besides, salt (from seawater or urination) can't be very good for the insides.

Although the Omnibrite has a stippled (texturised) reflector, the beam is full of artifacts; it is not smooth at all. It is also yellowish - even for an incandescent. So if you require accurate color rendition, you might want to choose another flashlight.

Test sample became broken while trying to figure out how to do a lamp change. So it no longer works, and further testing on it cannot be done.

Beam photo at ~12".
Measures 8.45cd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.

While this value isn't horrible and awful for a
single-cell incandescent, it isn't fantastic either.

TEST NOTES:
Test unit was purchased at Wallgreens on 02-25-05.

Flashlight is made in China. A flashlight's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I posted it on this web page.

Test sample became broken during testing, so I issued a "0 Stars - Piss On It" rating.
