The GLOW-ON LED Tester/Evaluator (hereinafter just called an LED tester or a tester) is exactly that: an LED tester.

It can be used to test LEDs that require 20mA, 150mA, and 350mA. This would make it useful for testing 3mm (T1) and 5mm (T1 3/4) LEDs, high powered LEDs that require 150mA, and 1 watt Luxeon Star or similar super high power LEDs that require 350mA.

In the 20mA and 150mA modes, the voltage across the LED terminals is limited to 5 volts, to help prevent you from letting all of the magic smoke out of the LED if you connect it backward.

The LED under test or wire pigtails if desired are connected to the tester by means of a socket assembly with lock-down levers - this is both to assure a good connection and to assure that the LED or wire pigtails do not unexpectedly fall out. These connectors are configured to accept LEDs of 0.20" lead spacing - this is rather standard, so you don't have to go out of your way to bend the LED leads unnessarily to fit in the sockets.

For power, a 12 volts DC 200mA "wall wart" AC adapter is included*. Just plug the plug on the end of its cord into the receptacle for it on the tester, and plug the squarish thing into any 2- or 3-prong 110-130VAC household receptacle (outlet).

Alternatively, you can connect a standard 9 volt rectangular transistor radio battery (not included). Connect the battery to the clip on the LED tester for it, orienting the battery so the negative (larger) terminal fits the smaller terminal on the tester, and vice-versa.

To test an LED, lift up on the two white things on top of the black sockets on the end of the tester. Lift them until they are more or less vertical. Insert the LED leads into these sockets, orienting the (+) positive lead so it is closest to the small red socket, and the (-) negative lead so it is closest to the black socket. Gently press down on those white things until they rest flush against the upper surface of those black sockets.

Set the current switch to 20mA, 150mA, or 350mA; depending on the LED under test. Turn the power switch on, and the LED under test should now come on.

You can test the Vf (forward voltage) of the LED under test by inserting standard DMM probes into the sockets for them on each side of the LED sockets; which can be seen in the photograph directly below this paragraph.

Actual current measurements are:
20.52mA on the 20mA setting.
150.0mA on the 150mA setting.
352.1mA on the 350mA setting.

I have decided to rate this product 5 stars and place it in The Trophy Case on this website.
It does not glow or otherwise emit its own light, so I could rate it much more quickly than I might rate a flashlight or other light-emitting device.
