The Thor-X 10,000,000 candlepower spotlight is an insanely bright portable (or luggable, anyway) spotlight that sports a 100 watt halogen incandescent light bulb, and has a 12 volt 7 amp-hour rechargeable battery built in to power that bulb.

The unit has two brightness levels which you can select with two rocker switches on the side of the bezel.

The version I have comes in an all-black plastic body which is rubberised at the bezel, handle, and tail. Another version that I know exists has a bright yellow body with black rubber on the bezel, handle, and tail.

 SIZE

As with any rechargeable product, it is recommended that you charge it first (see below).

To run the spotlight on high, press the uppermost of the two rocker switches to the "on" position. To turn it off, press the same switch to the "off" position.

To run the spotlight on low, press the lowermost of the two rocker switches to the "on" position. To turn it off, press the same switch to the "off" position.

There is a stand on the bottom of the spotlight that you can deploy however you see fit. There are knobs on the sides you can loosen and tighten when you adjust the stand.

If you wish to carry this spotlight over your shoulder with the included shoulder strap (the spotlight weighs approximately 12 pounds or approximately as much as a woman's bowling ball!), affix the metal clips at each end of the strap to the loops provided for it at each end of the handle. You can then shoulder-carry this spotlight.

To charge the spotlight when necessary, there are two ways:

1: you can unwind the cord for the AC charger, plug it into the receptacle on the right side of the spotlight marked "AC CHARGER", plug the large end into any 110 to 130 volts AC 2- or 3-prong household AC receptacle. Leave it charging for approximately 8 hours, then (and this part is important) unplug both the plug from the spotlight and the AC charger.
While charging, a red LED on the spotlight body right near the plug comes on.

2: Unfurl the cord from the automobile charger, plug the small end of the cord into the receptacle on the right hand side of the spotlight's bezel that reads "USE DC 12V CAR BATTERY", and plug the larger end in the cigerette lighter receptacle in your automobile. Time required to fully charge in this mode is 15 hours.

You should charge this product every three months even if you don't use it all during that time.
And you should always charge it if you've used it for more than a few minutes - lead-acid batteries really don't like to be left in a state of partial discharge.

Photograph of the spotlight's bulb.

Because this is a spotlight and not a flashlight meant to be carried around all the time, thrashed, and abused, the punishments I bestow upon flashlights will not be bestowed upon the Thor-X 10,000,000CP spotlight. So this section of the web page will be significantly more bare than this section of the web page on a page about a flashlight.

The beam on low is a bit unusual looking, consisting of a distinctly yellow, narrow, dim hotspot with a whiter, semicircular region surrounding it near its bottom.

Beam photograph (low) at ~12".
Measures 8,570cd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.

Beam photograph (high) at ~12".
Measures 680,000cd on a Meterman LM631 light meter.

Both of these values are VERY low because the beam is very wide near the face of the spotlight.

TEST NOTES:
Product was purchased on Ebay on 06-29-05, and was received late on the morning of 07-11-05.

Product was made in the United States. A product's country of origin really does matter to some people, which is why I published it on this web page.
I found some evidence to suggest that part of the Thor was made in China, but I still believe the vast majority of the spotlight was made in the U.S.

Test sample emits an odour not unlike a tire (or "tyre") or a plastic spoon burning in a Little Chief® upright electric salmon smoker that had previously been used for its intended purpose and then not cleaned afterward. This odour is not unpleasant by any means, but it is noticeable.
I noted a similar odour coming from an LED headlamp I received in 2001. It had a rubber battery door, and only emitted the odour when the rubber was abused or flexed.

The AC charger has an output of 12 volts DC at 1,500mA (1.5 amps).
Center of plug is (+) positive, outer can is (-) negative.

UPDATE: 08-24-06
Somebody emailed me this morning, and furnished a photograph of a Little Chief® upright electric salmon smoker so you'll get a better idea of what I was talking about when I said that the light emitted an odour not unlike a tire or plastic spoon burning in the appliance.

This photograph is *NOT* hotlinked; it is stored on my own server.

UPDATE: 10-18-08
I've been asked - er - rather, TOLD that I must dispose of this spotlight as quickly as possible; to that end, I posted a "For Sale" thread on Candlepower Forums Marketplace.
Once it is gone, the new (but still dreadful) "" icon will appear next to its listings on this website.

UPDATE: 10-19-08
I posted an ad on Craigslist yesterday; if I can't get rid of this spotlight soon, it may end up getting chewed up by the Big Fat Meanie (from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "New Student Starfish") - in other words, the garbage truck!!!

UPDATE: 10-20-08
The spotlight sold yesterday afternoon, so the "" icon now appears next to its listings on this website, indicating that I no longer have it for future analyses or comparisons.

UPDATE: 02-23-10
I have received a number of requests regarding the charger(s) for this product; unfortunately I simply do not know where a replacement might be obtained. :-(
